Psychotic Disorders

Mental disorders, mostly characterized by a disconnection from reality, affect brain function by altering thoughts, beliefs, or perceptions.

We focus mainly on:

  • 1 Brief Psychotic Disorder - sudden onset of psychotic symptoms lasting 1 day to less than 1 month.
  • 2 Schizophrenia - one of the most common of the more serious mental disorders. It’s chronic, severe, and disabling, characterized by disordered thoughts, delusions, hallucinations, and unusual or catatonic behavior.
  • 3 Schizoaffective Disorder - a mixture of psychotic (schizophrenia) and mood disorder.

Medication Management

If you are previously diagnosed, on medication, and it’s working well for you, then we’ll continue to monitor and manage that medication. If medication is needed, and you agree to the plan, you will be started on medication; then, we will meet on a regular basis to evaluate the effectiveness of the medication, make changes if needed, and assess for any side effects. It will be necessary to maintain regular routine follow-ups to continue getting your medications refilled.

Supportive Therapy

In some cases, the most effective mental health treatment includes medication use and counseling or psychotherapy. Supportive therapy will be provided if needed. Will recommend a referral to a counselor or psychotherapist if more involved treatment is deemed to be beneficial.
